🔧 Service: Commercial aluminium door repair
⚠ Issue: Failed door closer and top hinge
Southwark Park Galleries engaged London Window & Door Repairs to fix an aluminium commercial entrance door which had developed a major fault. The closure mechanism and top hinge had completely failed, the door had been working incorrectly and thus safety, access and security issues had been raised.
Being a public venue with regular visitors and staff present, the door had to be secured without delay and the permanent repair completed as soon as possible.
The management team reached out to us as soon as they felt the door was not closing properly anymore. The top hinge was starting to fail, therefore the door closer was being put under too much strain and eventually, the door would fall out of alignment.
To stop the problem from getting worse, our engineer was there in no time to check the situation.
The following was discovered after the inspection:
- The top hinge had completely failed and hence there was no proper support for the door
- Because of the misalignment, the door closer was also damaged
- Using the door would only increase the likelihood of door failure and physical harm
- Temporary short, term solutions were necessary to secure the door
Primarily, the door was to be fixed temporarily, the risk was to be reduced and the replacement of the door with the appropriate commercial grade parts fitted was to be scheduled for a later date.
Step 1. Major repair works:
Initially, the technician made the main door safe and secured the fixings. Also, he adjusted the door alignment to allow low, impact and controlled use until the repairs could be done. The next day, we came with the necessary parts and done the permanent repair step by step as it is listed below:
- The failed door closer was removed
- A new commercial, grade door closer was supplied and fitted
- Replacing the damaged top hinge
- The aluminium door was realigned
The door closing speed, latch action and smooth operation were testedAll the works were done fast and with very little interruption to the gallery visitors and staff.
Step 2. Time Taken:
Emergency attendance and safety worksReturn visit the following dayWithout disrupting the normal daily operations, full repair was done
Step 3. The Result:
The aluminium entrance door is now perfectly functional. It opens and closes smoothly, is properly aligned within the frame, and is yet secure with a controlled closing action.
Southwark Park Galleries managed to stay open without any trouble for their customers and staff during the whole process.
