London Window & Door Repairs were recently asked to replace a large double glazed unit at a residential property in Chelsea, London. The replacement glass had been manufactured to the exact specification required but the sheer size of it posed a serious logistical problem: it simply could not be carried through the property’s entrance, staircases or internal access routes.
Our team came up with a specialist lifting plan using a mobile crane to get the job done safely and efficiently. With careful planning and the right glazing equipment, we installed the oversized panel without a mark on the property or the new unit itself.
When the homeowner realised that changing their broken glass was not going to be a simple switch, they contacted us. The feature window required a large insulated glass unit that was too large to be manually handled within the building.
Following a full site survey, our engineers confirmed that internal access was too tight to safely transport the new glass. Getting such a large unit through the property could have damaged the glazing, as well as the inside of the home.
Instead of cutting corners on safety, we recommended crane-assisted installation.”
Once the lifting plan was signed off we co-ordinated the job with specialist lifting equipment and an experienced glazing team.
The oversized double glazed unit was delivered to site on the day of installation and securely attached to the crane with professional glass lifting equipment. The glass was then lifted above the property by the crane so our engineers could carefully guide it into place.
